5 Activities To Do After 5 pm in Breckenridge
1. Hit the Trails
Summer in the mountains means away-from-it-all wooded paths enveloped by serene solitude, wildflowers and waterfalls, and comfortable, clear weather perfect for slow sunset strolls. Breckenridge’s famous network of trails spans casual beginner-friendly paths to more challenging leg- and lung-busting climbs.
Hiking is a perfect afternoon activity in Breckenridge. Enjoy a handful of easy-access hikes that are walkable from downtown Breckenridge. No car required. Full backcountry feels included. Have a little more time to trek? Here are a few locally loved high-alpine summer hiking picks.
Those who prefer to pedal are met with unmatched road and mountain biking opportunities. Rent a cruiser and take a leisurely ride down the paved rec path rambling between Breckenridge and Frisco. Stop to sit along the river, people-watch by the Riverwalk or play at a park (or brewery) along the way. Mellow mountain biking trails await minutes from downtown along Tiger Road, Boreas Pass Road and behind the Wellington neighborhood. If it’s raining, check out a cycling class at Psycle 9600—Breckenridge’s newest craze and the highest spin studio in the U.S.
2. Find Some Zen
Exhale and welcome some p.m. bliss with a rejuvenating yoga session. Breckenridge is blessed with some of the best yoga studios and dedicated instructors around. Sign up for an evening restorative yin class at Meta Yoga or a challenging vinyasa class at Bhava Yoga. If you are able to head outside earlier in the day, test your balance with a stand-up paddleboard yoga class on Maggie Pond. Learn more about Breck’s yoga offerings.
3. Tour the Town
The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance keeps local mining, skiing and Old West history alive with its thoughtful, in-depth tours. Wander through historic homes on late-evening haunted tours, hear hair-raising ghost tales, walk cemeteries and saloons and discover the mining sites that put Breckenridge on the Gold Rush map. Get hands-on with Victorian tea times, gold panning, tarot readings and more.
4. Go Fly Fishing
The Blue River runs through Breckenridge and so do swarms of hungry, wild trout. There are numerous local outfitters on tap to show you where to go and how to cast. In fact, they’ll provide everything from rods and reels to waders and licenses. Two-hour intro-to-fly-fishing trips are your best bet for late afteroon casting success. Learn fishing basics and techniques and take in the cool summer night shoreline scene. If you are an experienced fisherman, grab your gear and head to the Blue River to enjoy an afternoon activity that is sure to reconnect you with nature. Tip: Pick up a single day fishing license at one of our local outfitters.
5. Swing the Greens
Novice or semi-pro, nothing beats twilight golf at the Breckenridge Golf Course. Choose from three immaculate Jack Nicklaus-designed nine-hole courses and take in sprawling postcard mountain views just minutes from downtown Breckenridge.
