High Altitude Environment

Breckenridge is higher than most Colorado resort areas and towns. At an elevation of 9,600 feet (2,900 meters) above sea level, Breck enjoys 300 inches of snow in the winter and mild 70-degree temperatures in the summer. On another note, the elevation can affect people in different ways and visitors should take high altitude precautions. Be sure to drink plenty of water (around 100 ounces -3 liters) per day and give your body time to adjust to this change. Also, be leery of excessive alcohol consumption upon your first couple of days at high altitude. Another way to transition to this environment is to spend a night in Denver, 5,200 feet (1,585 meters) on your way to Breckenridge. For most visitors, the effects of high altitude are minimal. For others, perhaps slight headaches and restless sleep occur during the first days after arrival. If you develop symptoms and continue to feel unwell after your first day or two, please visit one of our local medical facilities for evaluation. Getting prompt treatment could help you enjoy the remainder of your vacation more fully.
