VIP and viewing parties, citizen bike sprints and trials shows scheduled for inaugural race
BRECKENRIDGE, COLO. - Aug. 12, 2011 – Big Head Todd and The Monsters will perform a free live show at the Breckenridge Riverwalk Center (150 W. Adams Ave. in Breckenridge, Colo.) on Saturday, Aug. 27 as part of a weekend of activities celebrating the USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 5 Finish in Breckenridge, Colo.
Also on Saturday, the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance will host a VIP viewing party on the lawn of the Barney Ford House Museum; tickets start at $40 and can be purchased by calling 970-453-9767, ext. 2. Bars and restaurants throughout Breckenridge will host viewing parties Friday and Sunday featuring drink specials and live race coverage. Saturday, Aug. 27 schedule of events
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – USA Pro Cycling Challenge Expo and Beer Garden in the Sawmill Lot, adjacent to the race finish at Wellington Road and North Main Street
11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Citizen Bike Sprints at French and North Main streets (day-of registration only)
11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – The Pine Beatles perform on the Expo Stage
11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – RipStoke Mountain Bike Show performs 30-minute shows in Blue River Plaza, located at the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Main Street
1:30 p.m. – Breckenridge Cruisers ride down Main Street
2:00 p.m. – Live broadcast and race commentary begins on four jumbo televisions located around town
3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Athletes expected to finish, with awards immediately following (estimate)
5:00 p.m. – Doors open at the Riverwalk Center (150 W. Adams Ave. in Breckenridge, Colo.)
5:30 p.m. – Big Head Todd and The Monsters free show begins
Founded in 1986 by Todd Park Mohr (lead vocals and guitars), Rob Squires (bass) and Brian Nevin (drums), then University of Colorado students, Big Head Todd and The Monsters became one of the region’s most popular acts through constant touring. After issuing two popular independent releases on their Big imprint, the band hooked up with Irving Azoff’s Giant Records for the platinum album Sister Sweetly (1993). The Monsters issued four chart albums on Giant and Warner Bros.
The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is a demanding seven-day road biking race that has already confirmed top cycling teams from across the world. The race rolls through Colorado Aug. 22-28, with an expected sprint finish on the streets of historic downtown Breckenridge Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
