Annual Kingdom Days heritage fest brings Outhouse Races and history-focused fun
BRECKENRIDGE, CO - Apr 26, 2011 – The Breckenridge Resort Chamber in conjunction with the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance will again offer a robust lineup of free activities – including entry to all historic sites and the notorious Outhouse Races – during the town’s annual heritage celebration of Kingdom Days, June 17-19, 2011. Click here for the complete event schedule including blacksmithing demos, gold panning, historic hikes and more.
- Outhouse Races: the centerpiece of the weekend, these races let competitors roll down Ridge Street to vie for the Gold Throne, Silver Moon or Bronze Bucket awards. Watch the video.
- Bluegrass in the Park: Close out the races with BBQ ($5 includes a meal and two drink vouchers) and live bluegrass from local band The Luv Brothers.
- Open House on History: All Breckenridge Heritage Alliance historic sites and tours are FREE of charge during Kingdom Days. Reservations are not required. Hike to a mine, explore the house of an escaped-slave-turned-prominent-Breck-businessman, pan for gold and much more.
- Town Party: Each year, the Town of Breckenridge throws a party to welcome warm weather after a winter of hard work. Join the locals for this rite of summer with music, food and socializing.
Why Kingdom Days? Founded more than 150 years ago by miners in search of gold (and they found it), Breckenridge was inadvertently excluded from some copies of U.S. maps; the town became known as “Colorado’s Kingdom” until 1936 when it was finally incorporated. Today, Breckenridge still attracts visitors in search of adventure.
Breckenridge Central Reservations is offering weekend lodging packages for $116 per night (based on a family of four staying in a two-bedroom condo for three nights). Visit BreckCenRes.com or call 800.Go.Breck to book.
