BRECKENRIDGE, CO - Oct 9, 2010 – The North Face, the world’s premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, today announced that Kit DesLauriers will come to Breckenridge as part of the 2010 Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series. The live, nationwide 29-city tour invites adventure fans from across the country to share in the incredible tales of seven athletes from The North Face Global Athlete Team.
This year, the tour boasts its most thrilling lineup yet, with more athletes and more tour stops. Kit DesLauriers, who is the first person to climb and ski off the highest peak on each continent, will share her incredible story about exploring the 19 million-acre Arctic Refuge with Breckenridge residents on October 9th. In “Journey Through The Arctic Refuge,” presented by The North Face and The North Face Breckenridge, Kit will recount her journey through the greatest wilderness in North America, as she and her team towed sleds across the frozen tundra, skied off the highest peaks in the region and took in the incredible landscape that could be forever changed if the region is opened to oil drilling.
Kit first realized she wanted to pursue big mountain skiing in Sikkim, India in 1998. Since then, Kit DesLauriers has won Extreme Skiing events including becoming a two time World Freeskiing Champion, and has skied off the summit of the highest mountain on each continent – the Seven Summits – including a ski descent of Mt. Everest. She’s also since created Pursue Balance, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing leadership for personal transformation and environmental stewardship.
Attendees will get to hear the story first-hand at Kit’s presentation, which will take place at The Riverwalk Center; located at 150 West Adams, beginning at 7pm and will be preceded by a 5:30pm VIP reception in benefit of the BOEC at The North Face Breckenridge; 322 South Main Street; food provided by The Briar Rose and will include beer and wine. The Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) is a national leader in outdoor adventure education serving all people, while ensuring that the outdoors is accessible to those with disabilities and special needs.
Tickets for the event are available for free on a first come first serve basis. Guaranteed seats are available starting at $8.00 at www.thenorthface.com/speakerseries. VIP Reception tickets, which include preferred seating, a meet & greet with Kit, beer, wine and light food, are available for $20.00. Following the presentation, there will be an interactive question-and-answer session and a book/poster signing.
