Artists Wanted: Call for Oktoberfest Artwork

Entries due no later than March 24, 2010

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – March 2, 2010 - The Breckenridge Resort Chamber is again offering the public the opportunity to design the artwork for the 16th Annual Breckenridge Oktoberfest to be held September 17-19, 2010. Local artists have another opportunity to capture the feel of the Munich festival in Breckenridge. The Breckenridge Oktoberfest is known as the best Oktoberfest in the mountains, with thousands of visitors filling Main Street during the two-day street party. The winning artwork will appear on the 2010 Breckenridge Oktoberfest ½ and 1 litre steins and possibly on the posters, print advertising and branding of the event.

What is Oktoberfest anyway?
The first Oktoberfest was held in Munich on October 12, 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage. In the following years, the celebration expanded and moved forward into September with the last weekend of Oktoberfest being celebrated in October; that tradition continues today. In Breckenridge, we celebrate just one weekend, the same weekend as Oktoberfest begins in Munich.

How can I enter a design?
Concept sketches are due no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Sketches must be no larger than 14” x 17,” and both horizontal and vertical formats will be accepted. From the submittals, the art winner will be chosen by a select panel of judges. Due to the multiple uses of the artwork we ask that artists use a limited color palette so that it can be readily adapted to the steins, clothing and vector art.

Artwork can be submitted to the BRC offices located at 311 S. Ridge St. in Breckenridge, or mailed to:

Breckenridge Resort Chamber
Attn: Special Events
PO Box 1909
Breckenridge, CO 80424

Once the winning artwork is selected, the winner will be required to submit final art at a poster size of 14” x 17” by early April.

What can I win?
The artist who submits the winning 2010 Oktoberfest art idea will receive a prize package including Oktoberfest schwag, steins and beer tickets from the Breckenridge Resort Chamber and his/her artwork displayed all over Breckenridge and beyond.

What are some Oktoberfest images of the past?
Past Oktoberfest artwork has included a variety of themes including fall leaves, the Breckenridge Ski Resort, Bavarian inspired landscapes, symbols and figures and of course, beer – just to name a few. Artists are encouraged to stop by the Breckenridge Resort Chamber to check-out the Oktoberfest artwork from previous years.
