BRECKENRIDGE IN 2030?

Help shape future at kick off meeting on June 21

Breckenridge, CO — June 14, 2010 - What will Breckenridge look like in 20 years? Will traffic congestion double? Will fewer “locals” live in Breck? Will the ski season shorten?

The public is invited to learn more and to participate in answering these questions through the “Sustainable Breck” project. The kick off meeting for this public process is slated for Monday, June 21 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Beaver Run Conference Center. The goal is to address issues now in order to preserve the community of Breckenridge for future generations, and will further the goals of the Breckenridge Vision Plan developed by the community in 2002.

“Sustainable Breck is about looking at the issues that affect our community, such as our natural environment, housing, recreation, and the economy, and then determining how we can enjoy our resources without compromising the ability of future generations to use them”, noted Breckenridge Mayor John Warner. “It’s about identifying what do we as the community want Breckenridge to look like in 10, 20 and even 30 years. The Town’s task force has identified a variety of issues, and now we want the community to give us input. Sustainable Breck is essentially the next step of the Vision Plan.”

The evening includes special guest speaker Auden Schendler. He is the executive director of sustainability for Aspen Skiing Company and author of “Getting Green Done: Hard Truths from the Front Lines of the Sustainability Revolution”. Also, the agenda includes projections of what the community could look like in 2030, information on how to get involved with the Sustainable Breck project, and a few fun interactive activities.

“This is a great opportunity for Breckenridge residents to help shape our community’s future“, said Breckenridge Councilmember Jeffrey Bergeron. “Everyone is encouraged to come to the meeting and for the free snacks!”

Free childcare by licensed providers will be provided; advance reservations are required by calling 970.453.3160. Light refreshments will be provided.
