BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – June 8, 2010 – In celebration of the zany character of Breckenridge, and the hardships faced by our forefathers, Breckenridge is bringing back its quirky event that combines a glimpse of the town’s past in the spirit of today. The fourth annual Breckenridge Outhouse Races will take place in downtown Breckenridge at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2010, and visitors and residents are once again invited to put on their creative thinking caps and start building their Outhouse Race entries. Teams can push or pull their way to the finish line. The FREE registration deadline is Thursday, June 17, 2010. Visit gobreck.com to register your “craft” and download a complete copy of the rules and regulations.

The Race
The race course will span one Breckenridge block on Ridge Street from Lincoln to Washington Avenues. The course will be divided into two lanes. Teams will race in heats of two. First Outhouse to cross the finish line wins the heat. The winning team will advance to the next round and the losing team will be eliminated. This is a non-timed event.

Team Rules
Each team can have up to five members with one person mandated to ride inside the Outhouse. Helmets are recommended for the racers, but mandatory for the team member on board. There are no weight limits, but you must be at least 13 years of age to participate.

Technical Rules
All entries must be pulled or pushed. No motors or pedal propelled mechanisms allowed. Bicycle parts and pieces permitted, but no in-tact bicycles allowed. Each Outhouse must have a seat with a hole that one team member sits on during the race. The seat must be securely attached to the outhouse. Each outhouse should have its name or theme displayed (proudly) on the outhouse.

Structure Rules
Outhouses may be built of any solid material, as light as cardboard or as heavy as plywood. All outhouses should have four sides, a roof and a doorway. The door is optional. Windows are allowed, but no glass may be used. Any number and size of wheels may be used. Visit gobreck.com for exact size specifications.

Peoples’ Choice Voting
All entries will be staged near the race route prior to the start of the races in the Exchange Lot. Ballots will be available for the general public to vote on the most creative entry, most humorous entry and more. People’s Choice voting will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 20 prior to the races.

Join in the fun as we celebrate Breckenridge’s heritage and its zany community character through Kingdom Days June 19-20, 2010 and participate in Breckenridge’s fourth annual Outhouse Races.
