The Lighting of Breckenridge Celebrates the Start of the Holiday Season
Santa arrives in Breckenridge Dec. 4; more lights and markets than ever before
BRECKENRIDGE, CO - Dec 1, 2010 – The Lighting of Breckenridge kicks off the season when Santa meets holiday revelers in a horse-drawn carriage on Dec. 4, 2010. Sip steaming cocoa, snack on cookies and join carolers in song for a procession along Main Street. Vibrant ornaments and twinkling lights come alive with the lighting of the plaza and town tree.
New for 2010, the Blue River Plaza will shine brighter than ever, thanks to some ten additional trees, sponsored by community members and businesses. Also new, two weekends of a European-style holiday market mean families have plenty of opportunities to find that perfect gift. Think roasted chestnuts, hot spiced cider, mulled wine, visits with Santa and unique shopping along Breckenridge’s Main Street. Schedule for the Dec. 4 lighting is as follows:
12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – Bring the family for ornament decoration at Ready, Paint, Fire (323 N. Main St.). Paint ceramics and receive the finished product the next day; $5 per ornament and a discounted studio fee apply. Holiday storytelling takes place throughout the day.
4:30 p.m. – Free cocoa, cookies and caroling at Subway (305 N. Main St.) means the entire family can get into the holiday spirit.
5:00 p.m. – Santa arrives at Subway in a horse-drawn carriage to lead a procession to the Blue River Plaza (South Main and Washington) for the official town lighting. All are welcome to join the free Main Street procession, complete with song and lights.
5:15 p.m. – End the walk at the Blue River Plaza for the official lighting of town. Join in carols and take time to explore the Victorian Holiday Market.
6:00 p.m. – Grammy nominee Randy McAllister performs in the Blue River Plaza. Don’t be surprised to see him combine genres for a truly unique performance that hits notes of gospel, blues, country, rock and zydeco.
5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – Visit with Santa at Breckenridge Welcome Center, located right next to the Blue River Plaza. Let the little ones share their Christmas wishes with Santa and take a photo, too.
