World Renowned Alpinists Conrad Anker and Jimmy Chin Share Harrowing Tales in Breckenridge

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – October 8, 2009 – World renowned alpinists, Conrad Anker and Jimmy Chin will come to Breckenridge to share tales of climbing, first ascents and descents and teamwork. The Breckenridge stop is part of the 2009 Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series, a nationwide tour that will bring the stories of top The North Face Global Athlete Team members to life.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge. During the presentation, The Center of the Universe: Teamwork and Tenacity in the Himalaya, Anker and Chin will share stories from the hardest climb of their careers and talk about how teamwork and friendship helped them and fellow climber, Renan Ozturk, survive an incredible 18-day ascent of the 22,000 foot Mt. Meru deep in the Indian Himalaya. Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A with the athletes and a poster signing.

A not-to-be-missed VIP reception will take place prior to the presentation at 5:30 p.m. at The North Face Breckenridge at 322 South Main Street. The reception will include a meet and greet with Anker and Chin, beer, wine and light food. All proceeds will go to the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center. Visit www.thenorthface.com/speakerseries to download tickets for limited FREE seating, or purchase $8 reserved seating and the $20 VIP reception and preferred seating.

Conrad Anker has climbed the most technically challenging terrain in the world, from the mountains of Alaska and Antarctica to the big walls of Patagonia and Baffin Island. His career has included first ascents of the Rakekniven, a 2,500-foot wall in Queen Maud Land in 1997 and the Spansar Peak in the Karakoram mountains in 1998. As a member of the Mallory & Irvine Research Expedition, Conrad discovered the body of George Mallory, the preeminent Everest explorer of the 1920s, shedding new light on one of climbing’s great mysteries.

Growing up in southern Minnesota, Jimmy Chin first knew he was destined to live a life in the mountains when he visited Glacier National Park at the age of 10. Since graduating college, Jimmy has been climbing, skiing, exploring and photographing expeditions in the remote corners of the planet, becoming one of the most versatile and sought after expedition photographers in the industry. In the past decade, Chin has documented everything from first ascents of unclimbed alpine big walls in the Karakoram to first ski descents of high peaks in the Himalayas, including a ski descent from the summit of Everest.
