Robin and Patty Theobald named 2009 Ullr King and Queen Long time Breckenridge locals receive crowns at Ullr bonfire
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – January 5, 2009 – Long time Breckenridge locals and prominent figures in the community, Robin and Patty Theobald, will be crowned the King and Queen of the 2009 Ullr Fest at tonight’s Ullr Bonfire at the Gold Run Nordic Center. The couple will be crowned with custom Ullr helmets amongst friends, locals and visitors. The Theobalds were the most deserving of the crowns given their commitment to the community and the town’s history, character and preservation.
“We are honored to be crowned as royalty for Ullr Fest 2009 as we begin to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Breckenridge,” said Robin Theobald.
As a 5th generation Breckenridge native, Robin was born and raised in Breckenridge and his grandmother and father were also born in buildings still standing on Main Street.
Robin is a prominent figure in Breckenridge with many accomplishments. Robin started the first radio station in Breckenridge in 1975, and he has preserved and restored 15 historic buildings in town including The Tin Shop and Barney Ford House Museum, which he and Patty donated to The Saddle Rock Society, a Foundation dedicated to historic preservation. Robin is also a professional, licensed pyrotechnic and has produced the Breckenridge fireworks for New Years and July 4 for more than a decade.
Robin currently serves as the Chairman of Upper Blue Planning Commission and President of the Board of Directors of Upper Blue Sanitation District and has been appointed by the last three governors to serve on the Colorado Historic Records Commission. Both his father and Great Grandfather served as Mayor of Breckenridge.
“No one loves Breckenridge more than Robin, through all of the changes, from paving Main Street and the building of Dillon Dam to the development of the world class resort community we are today, Robin has supported and participated in the responsible growth of his hometown,” said Patty Theobald.
Robin jokes that “Patty is a relative newcomer” to Breckenridge, not arriving until 1969.
Patty has served on the Boards of the Summit Foundation, Town of Blue River, The Women’s Foundation of Colorado, Carriage House Preschool, Breckenridge Elementary School PTO and Summit Schools Accountability Committee.
The Breckenridge Resort Chamber is proud to add Robin and Patty to the prominent list of Ullr Kings and Queens. Everyone can see this year’s Ullr King and Queen riding down Main Street in Breckenridge’s annual Ullr Parade at 4:30 p.m. this Thursday, January 8.
