One Breckenridge

'One Breckenridge' is Breckenridge's town-wide guest service program. We believe that a culture of guest service needs to start with one local at a time. Four times a year, Breckenridge employees and residents have an opportunity to participate in Guest Service Influencer (GSI) training program, where they are not only taught the fundamentals of providing the best customer service, but are taught to teach these skills as well. The theory is, each GSI will be able to go out into the community and teach these skills to other employees, making a town-wide culture of excellent guest service.

January/February 2017 Champions
Ridden - Rob Catalano, Jarred, Wes, Ashley, Carver, Luke - Standard #2 -In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge

Great time today with Rob, our awesome tour guide, on the fat bike tour to the Broken Compass Brewery (GREAT brewery and tour - thanks to Axe). Rob explained everything perfectly about the bikes, including all details on how to safely ride through the crowded town to the bike trail and although I was nervous to ride before we started, I found it to be a great ride and the bikes very easy to drive and control. Now for the bikes, THEY ARE UNBELIEVABLE!! The huge tires make the ride a lot of fun, especially in several inches of snow - the control in snow and ice is surprisingly good. We will definitely be coming back later this season to try these in the spring!
What led me to the tour was going into the store two days earlier to look for a snowboard for my son. Luke helped us find the perfect board, installed some great bindings and treated us like old friends. He showed us their awesome fat tire bikes and the bike tours and gave us a brochure with more information. Great service, great store!! Thanks Rob, Luke and the whole Ridden team!!

Abou Ba – City Market - Standard #2 –  In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge
What Impressed You?:  My first interaction with Abou occurred in the checkout line at City Market.  Abou immediately pulled me into conversation; asking me about where I worked, what I did, and if I liked living in Breckenridge.  You name it, we talked about it!  Abou was engaging, kind, and genuinely interested in my day and well being.  After our initial interaction this trend continued.  Whenever we would bump into each other at the checkout line or in the store Abou would be sure to give me a high five and catch up.  We’ve had wonderful conversations that range from stories about his trips back home to Africa to the amount of ice cream I’m buying.  Abou goes out of his way to make the guests of City Market feel welcomed in this town.  When it comes to Abou, you won’t just feel like you made a new friend, you will have.

Jessica Woodland  – US Bank - Standard #1 – We INVITE a conversation with you in the first 30 seconds of meeting you, respecting the fact that you are the reason why we are here.
Jessica has a very impressive ability to make people feel welcome and at home the minute they enter our door. She greets people right away letting them know they have been seen and noticed. She is friendly and kind but most of all consistent with every person. She finds ways to connect with individuals who come to us from different states and areas and helps to make them feel at home and welcome. We have an internal customer service scoring system on which she out preforms many of the other employees and gets high marks on a regular basis. She works two jobs and always comes to work smiling!

Kelly Garoutte – Tadeo’s Sauce on Maggie, Riverwalk Center - Standard #2 & 3 –  In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge
We get you excited to try a new Breckenridge Experience during our conversation. AND set you up to make that experience before you move on.
Kelly is a bartender at the bar, owned by Joe Taddeo, in the Riverwalk Center. I've observed her connection with our patrons for the last year and a half, and have to say that she has one of the best personalities i've ever witnessed in the liquor service industry. She keeps a smile on her face during the busiest of times, even when the patrons are angry. She remembers returning patrons names, details about them, and most often what they are drinking. She asks, and genuinely listens, about how people's days have been. I also have noticed that several patrons are willing to wait the extra 5 minutes to have Kelly take their order. She is truly a shining example of the Standards #2 & #3.

Alpine Spa & Salon  - Erin Webster - Standard #5 - You leave Breckenridge feeling like it's a special place - truly unlike any other ski town.
Erin Webster newly hired my front desk services (12/7/16) and is the best person to run this incredible place of business. I recently moved from Springfield VA , and I have worked in the most popular salon in Alexandria Va. Their expectations from a fast paced, business oriented city were unbelievably high. Alpine Spa and Salon mirrors if not exceeds the same standards as that prestigious Spa and Salon on the East Coast near our Nation’s Capitol. Erin Webster is the proud new owner of Alpine Spa and Salon as of August 2016. With the Holidays kicking in and limited staff, only she has been able to meet the highest standard of excellence in the Spa Industry. When you arrive as a guest here at our Spa, you are greeted with a warm welcome and an aroma of our signature Lemongrass & Rosemary scented handmade candles flowing throughout the air. We then offer to hang your jacket for you and inquire which service you are reserved for. While we transfer you to the waiting area we invite a conversation with you in the first 30 seconds of meeting you, respecting the fact that you are the reason why we are here. We offer three selections of our Hot Tea or a glass of room temperature filtered water. You are then greeted by one of our highly experienced staff members, in the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a new friend-like you now “know a guy / gal” in Breckenridge. We get you excited to try a new Breckenridge experience during our conversation, and set you up to make that experience happen before you move on. You proceed to your service whether it is a Japanese Facial and Foot massage, or a Detoxifying Thai Body Wrap with Eucalyptus Aroma Therapy. Erin Webster demonstrates great leadership and provides her employees with the most flexibility. She shares her vision for the future of Alpine Spa and Salon which is soon to be remodeled. Owner Erin Webster allows her guests to feel at home, comfortable and relaxed, she want's you to be excited to come back, and tell the story about your new adventure, and to tell your friends too! One will never forget the great experience and relaxing spa day here at the new and improved Alpine Spa and Salon because of the action oriented service Erin Webster and her staff provide. You leave Breckenridge feeling like it’s a special place - truly unlike any other ski town. We strive for nothing but the highest standard of Spa and Salon Excellence and would like to nominate the Owner of Alpine Spa and Salon for Guest Services Champion of the Year.

Diane Casciano – Breckenridge Free Ride - Standard #5 - You leave Breckenridge feeling like it's a special place - truly unlike any other ski town.
The other night, I was waiting for my bus at the station during some very snowy weather.  The buses were behind schedule.  I waited for about 20 minutes for my bus, and at that point one of the Free Ride supervisors approached me and asked if she could give me a ride to my stop, since the bus was very late.  I was so surprised and happy!  Diane went out of her way to ask me which route I was waiting for, and had me hop into a truck with her.  On a busy night like that during a snow storm, while she was on the radio trying to coordinate routes, she could have easily passed me by and went along her way.  I was very impressed by her kindness and service!

Dayne Dukes  – Charter Sports – Marriott - Standard #4 – We want you to be excited to come back and to tell the story about your new adventure, and to tell your friends too!
I came into Charter Sports to get some rental skis, to ski for my second time ever (I've only snowboarded until this season), and Dane was super helpful and friendly right away. Getting the correct skis and boots was a breeze, and the boots were actually comfortable, which was a pleasant surprise!  That afternoon when I was done skiing, I was excited to tell Dane and the other staff about how good my experience was, and they were genuinely happy to hear it.  This is the time of year that local employees can get burned out, and service can suffer as a result.  However this was not the case at Charter; as everyone was upbeat and friendly and were clearly enjoying their work.  I will for sure go back to Charter Sports, and I'll send others there as well!

Stephan Matza – Town of Breckenridge Facilities Department - Standard #5 - You leave Breckenridge feeling like it's a special place - truly unlike any other ski town.
Stephan has worked for the TOB Facilities Department as long as I've been working for the BTO.  The facilities department is responsible for care and maintenance in the Welcome Center building.  Stephan does excellent work, but it's what he does beyond his normal work that makes him stand out.  When he is working on something in the Welcome Center during business hours, it's inevitable that guests will ask him questions.  Others might just send them to the desk to ask the information staff, but Stephan always answers their questions with a smile, even strikes up conversation.  When something has been repaired or replaced in the building, he always takes the time to tell the staff about it, if we need to keep an eye on anything, and how it might affect us.  He's become a friend to all the employees in the building.

Maintenance and/or repair in the Welcome Center building is no easy task, and can include anything from fixing mechanical issues to cleaning up messes in the restrooms, which I'll spare you all the details on.  Stephan can always be counted on to get things done, and he'll become your friend in the process!

Holiday Season 2016-2017 Champions

Mike and Anna McGoff – Sky Run Vacation Rentals - Standard #2 - In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge.

Approximately one year ago we began looking for a property management company to oversee our soon to be purchased vacation home outside of Breckenridge. We submitted several online inquiries with local agencies.  Within two hours we received a phone call (on a Friday evening) from Mike DeGoff of SkyRun Vacation Rentals. We talked with Mike for nearly an hour about Breckenridge as a location for a rental property and the services they could offer us as prospective clients.  Mike’s explanation of the SkyRun philosophy was straightforward and very easy for first time rental property owners to understand.  We appreciated the simplicity of the fee structure and the inclusive services they could provide.  Our conversation with Mike left us feeling like we had made a new friend in Breckenridge, an area where we knew no one

The next response we got from another company came three days later and was filled with a smoke and mirrors approach to fees and services and the other never responded.  It was quickly made clear to us that Mike offered the kind of service and owner manager relationship we were looking for.  Our next step was to meet with Mike in person.

We met Mike on a Saturday morning and were quickly introduced to his wife, Anna, and the family dog.  We were treated like long time acquaintances when we came to the SkyRun office and the beginning of a relationship was formed between us. Mike and Anna assumed management of our property in December and have guided us through the rental seasons in Breckenridge, assisting with numerous issues encountered when having short term renters and general maintenance of a home in the harsh climate of Summit County.
Within the first week of ownership we encountered a plumbing failure and needed Mike and Anna to help us obtain a plumbing company to get our house back on track.  Because of their connections in Breckenridge we got a very quick response to our call for service.  Before a full month passed a roof leak was discovered and major roof repairs were in order to make the house fully functional as a rental.  Again, Mike and Anna came to our aid and put us in contact with people who could make the necessary repairs in adverse weather conditions.

We have learned a great deal about being property owners in a center for tourism through our relationship with Mike and Anna.  They keep us informed of what we should know about short term renting and about how we can together create a wonderful experience for our visitors. Sometimes the advice we get isn’t what we want to hear, but the honest approach we get from Mike and Anna is what we need to know.
The McGoffs have taken a personal interest in our home, its care, and in keeping it filled.  Whenever we call with a need, they respond.  They do the same for guests at the home.  Mike and Anna have gone above and beyond the norm to meet our needs as owners who live an eight hour drive away.  We trust Mike and Anna like family and we could not do this without them.  It is the focus on service that led us to partner with Mike and Anna McGoff and it is their commitment to our relationship that keeps us connected.

Breckenridge Ski Enterprises – North Face, Columbia and Main Street Outlet - All Standards – Numerous nomination cards!

Carrie Heintz – US Bank - Standard #2 - In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge

Carrie is absolutely amazing and always leaves me feeling confident about my banking in Breckenridge! When I first moved to Summit County, Carrie was working at the US Bank location in Dillon and she helped me set up my bank account there. It was just fate that she was transferred to the Breckenridge location at about the same time I was also moving to Breck! Every time I go to the bank, Carrie knows my face right away and asks about my children. She remembers our last conversation and will ask about things that we talked about during my previous visits there. She is always happy, very fast, and accurate. She definitely has made me feel like I "know a gal" in Summit County and I wouldn't do my banking with anyone else! I had an incident last month that involved another customer of US Bank, and when I called her to fix the problem, she knew who exactly I was talking about right away and assured me that it would be fixed! She is more than deserving of a service champion award!!

Whitney Rasmussen – The Lodge @ Breckenridge - Standard #2 - In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge
Whitney has been our Front Desk Supervisor here at The Lodge at Breckenridge for several years.  She is one of those special people that is always smiling and happy to see every single person she comes in contact with.  She loves talking with our guests on all of the activities we enjoy here in Breck.  She loves skiing, hiking, and mountain biking, so she is the perfect staff member to recommend specific adventures for our visitors.  Her ever-present infectiously positive attitude is one of her best qualities, and enables her to handle with genuine care all guest needs, from the simplest to the most challenging.  The Lodge wouldn't be quite the same without her, and we are so proud that she is part of our team.

Martini Bombec – Burke & Riley’s Irish Pub - Standard #2 - In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge
Martini has to be one of the most enthusiastic and charismatic people I have ever known.  He is a true asset to Burke & Riley’s.  I have never seen him without a huge smile on his face.  Martini goes out of his way to meet everyone who walks through the doors.  He greets everyone with a smile and treats everyone like a local.  It is not uncommon for him to walk out from behind the bar and give someone a hug.  He is a true steward to our community and someone we can all look to for an example of exceptional guest service.

Max Dental – Town of Breckenridge – Breckenridge Recreation Center - Standard # 4 - We want you to be excited to come back and tell the story about your new adventure, and to tell your friends too!
Max Dental works at the Breckenridge Recreation Center as an Adventure Programs Instructor. Max was performing a belay ride for a seven year old female guest. Once the girl climbed to twice her height the girl began to panic. Max swiftly and efficiently used his technical skills to ascend the rope to the girl. He continued to use words of comfort and encouragement to calm the girl. Max was able to turn the girl's first climbing experience into a positive adventure. The girl's mother was thoroughly impressed with Max's work and told us that she cannot wait to bring her daughter back to climb again.

Vince Hutton – Town of Breckenridge – Breckenridge Recreation Center - Standard #2 - In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge.
Vince took care of all my questions and made me feel like he really cared. Daily goes above and beyond. Elevator Broken; carried handicapped visitors up the stairs on his back.

Sarah Bott - Stephen C West Ice Arena - Standard #5 - You leave Breckenridge feeling like it's a special place - truly unlike any other ski town.
Sarah was in charge of the 2016 Winter Ice Show- "All that Glitters". Sarah wrote and directed a show that was attended by over 150 people. She worked for months with her students to choreograph a show. This show encompassed children from ages 4-19. There were many out of town guests that were looking for a new form of entertainment on their ski vacation to Breckenridge. They were very impressed with the performances and said that they wanted to make attending the show an annual family tradition.

Jackie Weiland – Breckenridge Recreation Center - Standard #5 - You leave Breckenridge feeling like it's a special place - truly unlike any other ski town.
Jackie was a life guard during the Pool Paw-Ty. Her participation during this event was above and beyond expectation. Visitors were told we would save a human but not a canine. Jackie was a smiling face in the pool who actually did help rescue Clyde the Malamute when he was struggling to find a way out of the pool. Jackie was incredibly friendly and left a lasting impression on the Pool Paw-Ty and as a team member for the Rec. Center. Thanks Jackie for adding an element to the Paw-Ty we didn't plan, yet added another level to the event.

August 2016 One Breckenridge Service Champions

Mallory Elliott – Clint’s Bakery & Coffee House - Standard #1 - We invite a conversation with you in the first 30 seconds of meeting you, respecting the fact that you are the reason why we are here.

Mallory consistently exerts a playful and energetic attitude when she is working.  She is upbeat, welcoming and has a great smile!  This specific example was when a really tired new mom walked up to the counter with her new baby around 10am.  Within seconds Mallory was at the desk, said hello with a smile and asked what she could get started for the lady... The new mom proceeded to order a latte.  Mallory seemed to take note of her tired, drained emotion and jokingly said after the mom ordered, "for him, right?" (pointing to the lady's baby who was half asleep already in her arms). Instantly, the mom cracked a smile, laughed out loud and said, "YES! but make it a double". Instantly that new mom was smiling, laughing and ready to enjoy her fresh new day in Breck.

Kevin Richey – City Market - Standard #1 - We invite a conversation with you in the first 30 seconds of meeting you, respecting the fact that you are the reason why we are here.
The deli was packed and Kevin was the only one working at the time. He was very friendly, patient, and inviting. He continued to smile and help customers even as his line grew and his co-workers left him to go on break. When this nomination was discussed, several members of the GSI Committee confirmed the level of service Kevin “consistently” provides to deli customers.

Grace Goodreau – Traverse Restaurant & Bar - Standard # 2 In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge
Grace started working here at Traverse just a few months ago, but since the day she walked through that door, Grace has made it known that she is proud to work for Traverse. Everything that she does is for our guests, she is always looking to exceed their expectations. She is also a true team player, not only serving in the restaurant but helping out in all other hotel departments as needed.  She also receives rave reviews from our guests and here are 3 of those that have been posted on Tripadvisor:

“Nice dinner after a long day!”
Reviewed via mobile: After a longer than planned drive, we decided to fine at the Lodge restaurant. Beer and wine selection was good. Salads were very good. The bison burger and bison short rib sandwich were very nice. Burger was cooked exactly as my wife ordered. Our server, Grace, was very friendly and appropriately attentive. Great way to end the day!

“Delicious food and great service”
Reviewed via mobile
My husband and I celebrating our anniversary at this restaurant. Grace was our server, and she provided excellent service. She was very friendly and attentive. The wine and food that we ordered was very tasty. I enjoyed the grilled watermelon caprese salad and spinach and ricotta ravioli. My husband loved the Brussel sprouts and trout. We liked it so much the first night that we chose to return the second night of our trip.

“This place is awesome!!”
My husband and I came to the Lodge at Breckenridge with our dog, and we were told we could order "to go" at Traverse Restaurant and eat on the back patio (where no service is offered), because even though dogs are allowed in the hotel in which the restaurant is located, they are not allowed inside the restaurant itself. When I went to place our order with Grace, one of the servers, she told me that because they were slow she would be happy to bring our dinner out to us (so already this was looking better than just placimg a to-go order!). Well, over the course of the night, Grace took as good of care of us as if the restaurant offered back patio service and she was just our waitress... which she was under absolutely no obligation to do! I had the walnut-crusted trout with goat cheese grits, and it was absolutely phenomenal... one of the best meals I've had in a long time!! My husband had the Tatonka burger and fries, which he said was delicious. Come hungry because the portion sizes are HUGE! Thanks again for such a great experience, you guys. :)

Sam Sooter – Summit Express - Standard #2 In the first two minutes of our conversation, you feel like you just made a friend-like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge
Last Friday (August 19) my mother flew in to visit from Michigan.  She took a Summit Express shuttle from DIA to Breckenridge.  Her flight was scheduled to get in a little after 9 am, and she was booked on the 11:30 am shuttle.  Her flight ended up being 20 minutes early, and she was able to get to the pick-up location in time to catch the 9:30 shuttle, which Sam was driving and generously let her get on despite being pretty full.  She was so happy to be able to make the earlier shuttle!  On the drive to Breckenridge, Sam was friendly with all the passengers, asked about their plans during their visit, discussed aspects of the drive, and even pointed out celebrity's homes along the way.  My mom isn't the most seasoned at travelling alone, nor does she particularly enjoy mountain roads like I-70.  However she was perfectly comfortable and the happiest of passengers with Sam as her driver!  She even mentioned her conversations with Sam several times that evening.  Thank you Sam for your kindness and commitment to not only getting passengers from point A to point B safely, but for making them comfortable and happy as well!  You exemplify service standard number 2 and Summit Express is lucky to have you!

Sara Cox – The Crown - Standard # 5 you leave Breckenridge feeling like it’s a special place, truly unlike any other ski town.
While waiting for the STX presentation on the Blue River Plaza, my husband went into The Crown to order a sandwich, then said he would return to pick it up, because he didn't want to miss the show. Once the sandwich was ready, Sara Cox made the effort to come out on the plaza and find us to deliver it, so my husband wouldn't have to miss a minute of the show!

She recently aided in assisting a guest whose brother was injured on the ski resort. She was very quick to respond with helpful contact information to get this guest to the right people. Keep being valuable Janet!

Jessica Jones – Breckenridge Welcome Center - Service Standard #5
Jonesey was very patient and kind to a guest of the ski resort whose brother was injured mountain biking on the resort. She was a VERY difficult person to listen to and be patient with. I have spoken to her as well. Jonesey sought to provide the best guest service to this woman and her family that she could. I was most impressed with Jonesey's calm demeanor throughout our involvement with this guest. Way to remain cool and collected Jonesey!

Cody Allen- Town of Breckenrideg- Service Standard #2

He made himself available to tournament officials and also assisted in figuring out a field schedule around soccer games. Thanks Cody for making our guests comfortable and knowing they had a guy on their side to help with the tournament.

April 2016 Nominations

Dallas Spencer – Empire Burger Standard - Service Standard # 2
During mud month, my boyfriend and I went in to Empire Burger and sat at the bar since it was one of the few places open. Dallas was our bartender/server and was great each and every time. Not only did he provide recommendations, he asked us questions and engaged with all of the guests sitting at the bar. On one particular night he was talking with a visitor that was asking about things to do in town and said that he couldn’t do them now but would be back in a couple weeks for work. Dallas gave him great recommendations and the guy told him he would definitely be back to eat there again. He is someone when you engage with him, you feel like you “know a guy” in Breckenridge and makes the evening more enjoyable.

Lasergraphics- Service Standard # 4
The Team at Lasergraphics consistently meets all of the standards on the One Breckenridge list. How excited can one be to come back to a print shop? However, my requests are usually last minute, needing a rush job and usually involve many moving pieces. The team routinely gets my projects completed, has a knack for knowing what I need, when I need it. I often need some help designing the final project and their input is welcome, appreciated and provides solutions. For always meeting my last minute demands with a smile, humor and some war stories, Lasergraphics is a service champion.

Miller Herritage – Overland Sheepskin Co.- Service Standard # 2
Miller Herritage has long been a friendly and familiar face in the Breckenridge community. His warm smile and friendly hugs are contagious. The way he engages his customers at Overland Sheepskin Company keeps people coming back year after year to catch up with him. As long as I have worked in this community, I’ve had people tell me about how wonderful he is as a sales representative. When I see people walking around with Overland bags, I ask if they worked with Miller. I love hearing the responses about how he is ‘that guy in Breckenridge’ that they will remember for a long time. Miller truly enjoys what he does, and the many positive comments from locals and tourists alike, attest to dedication to providing the very best customer service around. He has unique knack for making everyone feel welcome and like they ‘know a guy’ in this community.

June Walters – Breckenridge Heritage Alliance - Service Standard # 4
June is GREAT at what she does. She does an incredible job of educating and including people and she is always smiling. In the Welcome Center we consistently get positive feedback about June. Her guests on her tours love her and pick up on the fact that June loves what she does. June exemplifies all of the standards but specifically Standard # 4 . We hope June knows that we recognize her hard work and thoughtfulness. Keep up the good work June.

Marigold’s Farmhouse Funk & Junk- Service Standard # 1
Marigold’s is part of the buzz. I was having dinner with friends recently. The age range at the table was 35-84 years. Everyone at the table loves Marigolds! We also discussed that we all like it for different reasons. Every person at the table, as well as the guests of town who I often encounter, have nothing but great things to say about Marigolds. The store has a great atmosphere and great customer service. Kudos to Marigolds for your warm, bright, welcoming store!

Leslie Marshall – United States Postal- Service Standard #4
Works in a tough environment, respects people, feels like community, remembers who you are. Bright spots at USPS Leslie is always smiling and helpful! She is even friendly when she sees locals outside of the Post Office!

February 2016 Nominations

Christine Surdyk- Animal Lovers- Service Standard #4
At the recommendation of a friend, I had the pleasure of visiting Animal Lover's within my first week of moving to Breckenridge and had a fantastic experience. Not only was the store itself well-stocked and had the specialty item for which I was searching, the woman who helped me went above and beyond to make me feel welcome when she found out I was a new resident. She helped me take my items out to the car (I watched her do this for every single customer), took the opportunity to ask me about my pets and told me about things to do with them in the area, and insisted on me joining A.L.'s outstanding reward system. I have long ordered my pet food online and will be a strict Animal Lover's shopper from now on--AND their prices are even less expensive than amazon!

Hanna Radcliff -C&B Potts - Service Standard #2
Within a minute of sitting down to order food; Hanna had stopped what she was doing, greeted me by asking my name and shaking my hand, then proceeded to ask me how my day had been. As I waited for my food to arrive, I noticed that she was greeting everyone in the same manner. She knows how to be 'that guy' you want to see in Breckenridge, along with doing her best to provide the best customer service within 30 seconds. I enjoyed my experience with Hanna, and will definitely be back this week to say 'hi' to her!

Nature’s Own - Service Standard #4
When you have passion for your product it shows in the way that you treat customers who enter your store. Larry Lewarton and his staff at Nature’s Own in Breckenridge are the epitome of passion and you can feel it immediately when you walk through their doors. I have spent numerous days in Nature’s Own watching as Larry and his staff shows off their beautiful product to guests. While the pursuit of the sale I’m sure is at the back of their minds they are not averse to spending time just showing guest’s what they have and sharing with them their love of geology. Nature’s Own has made me feel like family when I walk in the doors and I’m sure that our out of town visitors feel the same. Larry and his staff are excellent representatives of our Customer Service Community here in Breckenridge.

Lyndsey Ameis Canteen - Service Standard #5
Lyndsey impressed me and my friends from minute one. She is a really great bartender. The Canteen is lucky to have her. She introduced herself right away. She would serve us drinks within seconds of asking for a refill. She split up our tabs with a smile on her face. She made recommendations about how we should ask for our food to be prepared. The size of our party changed throughout the night and we were seated in multiple locations. She provided me and my friends with some of the best service I have ever had in Breck. When I asked for her contact info at the end of the evening, I gave her mine. She followed up with me to thank ME. She is the one who deserves a thank you.

Broken Compass - Service Standard # 4
Upon opening less than two years ago, Broken Compass has continued to amaze me with their service. Let’s forget, for a moment, that the beer is phenomenal. The Broken Compass has a feeling unlike anything I’ve experienced before. There is a familiar and comfortable vibe when you walk in, like you’re going to a picnic (in winter). Broken Compass is also one of the most adaptable businesses I’ve ever been to. Even if it’s crowded, there is never more than a two minute wait for your beer. When the seating is too full, they add tables to the room with the beer fermenters, which is actually very fun. I’ve never been in Broken Compass without seeing Ax and Ford in there, and while they’re working, they make an effort to talk to everyone. I can’t think of a business more deserving of a Guest Service Champion award.

Lisa Campbell- Summit Mountain Rentals - Service Standard #3
Above anything else, Lisa is here for our guests. She makes sure that they know the best places to eat, the best hiking trails and runs on the mountain, and informs every guest of something "local" to do during they stay. Lisa exemplifies all of these 5 standards but the standard listed above is the one she exceeds at. Lisa is the most caring, dedicated, and enthusiastic person I have ever had the privilege of working with. Craniologie Standard # 5 Craniologie has revolutionized the shopping experience. They specialize in products for the head, which in our neighborhood means sunglasses, headphones, hats, helmets and goggles. When you walk into the store you are assigned a headucator who will stick with you and make sure what you’re buying works. They’ll make sure your helmet and goggles work together (a common mistake of new skiers is buying goggles that leave a gap between the goggle and the helmet). They’ll ensure your sunglasses look good on you. Plus, they’re happy to work within any budget without making you feel self-conscious. Add that to the fact that you’re always greeted immediately upon walking in, not by one, but by every employee in the shop, Craniologie a model example of guest service in Breckenridge.

January 2016 Nominations

Michael Philipson Grand Timber: -Service Standard #5
This guy is awesome. If you plan to stay here, make sure you ask for Michael P!!! He is extremely knowledgable, pretty funny, super helpful, and DEFINITELY HAS THE GUESTS BEST INTENTIONS. Michael helped me book this trip with ease, recommended great activities for my wife and I, ALSO,... hooked us up with nice places to eat on our visit. The day we checked in, he came out to greet us (he was on crutches... what a good guy)... I mentioned I didn't bring any googles and he just so happened to let us borrow his. INCREDIBLE!!! Way to go way up and beyond sir!!

Norm Stein – City Market - Service Standard #1
Norm was the reason why we are here I walked up to the customer service counter the other day at City Market. I needed a specific ingredient for a recipe. Norm greeted me before I even stopped at the counter. He asked what I needed. After I told him he said, "let me show you exactly where that is." Before leaving my side he asked if I needed anything else. I complimented him on how well he took care of me. He responded with "That's why we are here. If you ever need anything again, just ask." I thanked him and he smiled and went back to the counter. He was so pleasant and helpful. It was a really great experience.

Sarah Robins – Breckenridge Recreation Center - Service Standard #1
While Sara personifies all of the ONE BRECKENRIDGE standards, it is her quick smile and positive attitude that doesn't just invite, but begs a conversation with our guests and locals alike. Sara has approximately 10 seconds from entry of each guest into the Rec Center to acknowledge, identify, and potentially help. She does this with an enthusiastic smile and prompt hello to all that enter and her mood is infectious. Thanks Sara for making every visitor to the Rec Center feel welcome.

Peak 1 Express- Service Standard # 3
1. Great service. Nick was in time, very courteous and friendly, and a great driver. By far, the best shuttle service I have had from Breck to the airport! 2. Seriously I don't know what I would do without peak one express! Such a great company with amazing drivers! I come to Vail every two weeks from Chicago to visit my boyfriend and thankfully I make herein one piece every time. Doug is the best!!! very and punctual! I also had a ride with Adam and he rocked!!! The only negative would be that they are a bit pricey and I wish there was a frequent rider program for someone like myself since I utilize them so much. Otherwise I wouldn't ride with any other company. 3. Chase from peak 1 is probably the best driver they have! Highly suggested if you can grt him! Vail is lucky to have him and they should pay him 3x more! 4. This is our first trip to Breckenridge and our driver, Frédéric Santos was the best! On time, professional, fun and he even pointed out historical sites along the way. On top of that he knows those roads like the back of his hand! I felt completely safe the entire time. Book this company and ask for Frédéric! 5. I had to leave my vacation a little earlier than my friends to attend a business trip and Peak 1 Express was very accommodating. The shuttle was incredibly easy to book, fairest price I could find for a shuttle, & my driver Gregg was awesome! Highly recommend and will use then again when I come back to Breck. 6. Gregg was our driver and was absolutely fabulous in every way! He made sure we were all safe, kept us hydrated, and entertained. If I could give more stars I would. Thanks Gregg!!!

Blue River Sports Ski and Snowboard Rental- Service Standard#2
1. Best ski rental experience ever. Friendly, courteous staff made the experience fun and easy. Great set up for fitting. Parking at the front door. Easy drop offs. I highly recommend Blue River Ski Rental. 2. Having not skied in many years the staff was extremely friendly and helpful in getting me set up and providing directions on where to ski. Rental was very inexpensive for half day. Lift ticket was another story, $123.00 after 12. The lift ticket is not affiliated with the rental location. Overall my experience was perfect. Lifts are a short walk from the rental location. 3. I cannot say enough good things about the people in this shop. They were all very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The equipment is well maintained and top quality. Prices are almost 1/2 as you would pay "across the street" and they will hold your skis/poles for you overnight when renting multiple days. Great place. Excellent service and location.

Flip Side Breckenridge -Service Standard #4
I was so impressed by their customer service on the night of their Open House. Friendly, efficient, and delicious food and -- large portions. Not sure of Open House date. I think a Thursday. This is the best burger place I have ever been to. Great atmosphere great people great food. Just writing this review makes me want to have another burger. The burger was cooked perfect. The meat was tender and juicy. Service was great! Definitely will be going back! The food was delicious and the service was stellar! Great vibe, contemporary rustic-casual-outstanding service!! Our service was fabulous. Our server was very attentive and friendly.

Grand Timber Lodge - Service Standard #2.
John went way over the top on recommendations as well. He was always very accurate with his projected times and got us where we needed to go quickly AND SAFELY!! One day he even went out of his way to bring in his own personal sleds (ON HIS DAY OFF) so my wife and I could go over to Carter Park and enjoy some "fun-lil-kid" time when we were pooped from skiing. John, thank you for your great service and kind heart (loved the conversations too)!!

December 2015 Nominations

Ready, Paint, Fire - Service Standard #5
Bethany and her team are recognized for their consistent over the top service. Multiple nominations demonstrating all of the One Breckenridge Guest Service Standards were received by the committee. Most recognizable was their ability to make visitors excited about their experience, to come back and to tell their friends about their adventure in Ready, Paint, Fire. The Team at Ready, Paint, Fire consistently engages visitors in a manner that makes everyone feel special during their visit. They have a special knack for remembering their visitors whether they were returning from a few days ago when picking up an item or returning from visits in prior years. Columbine Café- Service Standard #1
Columbine Cafe is cozy, clean and consistent. My coworkers, friends, acquaintances and tourists all have the same warm, fuzzy feelings about this place. I frequently hear and read positive reviews about Columbine. People seem to like seeing familiar faces here, receiving their quality service and most of all eating all of the yummy food on the menu. Columbine is a great breakfast/lunch staple in Breck! Congratulations Columbine Café!

Trisha Krasnicki -Goods -Service Standard # 4
During the couple of weeks surrounding the Christmas holidays, I was in Goods a couple of times and interacted with Trisha on both of those occasions. She works in the shoe section. Each time Trisha was not only friendly and courteous, but went out of her way to be helpful and attentive. She obviously loves her job and cares about guest service. And she knows her products! Goods is a very busy store, but I will go there more often now for shoes and I will send others there as well! Congratulations Trisha!

Bridget Krissly - US Bank - Service Standard # 2
A trip to your bank is usually nothing special. But when you go to the US Bank in Breck and meet Bridget she will make your day brighter! Bridget welcomes every customer with a genuine smile, eye contact and a willingness to help and solve any problems that may arise. She makes you feel welcome and important. When she is waiting on a customer and another customer walks in she will acknowledge them with a hello and smile and let them know someone will be with them shortly. She gets to know her customers and treats them all with respect. Running to the bank is no longer an errand, it’s a visit with a friend! Congratulations Bridget!

Kim Gill - Giampietros - Service Standard #3
I have been going to Giampietros since they opened, about 16 years ago and one thing has never changed. When their doors originally opened they had an employee named Kim and she is still there and has been the manager for many years. Kim greets everyone with a welcome back smile and lets them know how long a wait they might expect. (If you have ever been there you know there can be an hour wait, outside, on any given night) She then suggests that they go to a neighboring bar, have a cocktail, relax and she will call the bar when their table is available. No matter how busy, Kim will find a few minutes to make sure you are enjoying your visit to Breckenridge and suggest any activities you may be interested in. She makes everyone feel like they belong and they are a friend of hers and the Giampietros family! Congratulations Kim!

Tim Halverson – Beaver Run Concierge - Service Standard #2
If anyone who stays at Beaver Run were to leave there and say that they “Know a Guy” in Breckenridge who helped them to create the best possible experience for their vacation, they would be talking about Tim Halverson. Tim has been with Beaver Run for nearly 8 years and currently holds the title Concierge Supervisor. Through his years in the industry he has developed into a premier example of the customer service Beaver Run prides itself on. He is consistently cheerful with the guest’s and is always eager and willing to help guest’s make the most of their visit.. It is with pride and gratitude that we recognize Tim today for his service and representation of what Breckenridge and Beaver Run strive to be. Tim is quite “the guy”! Congratulations Tim!

Copper Top - Service Standard # 1
It’s not hard to find a bar or restaurant in the town of Breckenridge, but during the busy season it is sometimes hard to find a bar that welcomes you in the middle of a lunch rush with open arms. Coppertop Bar has come to be recognized by locals and visitors alike for the welcoming attitude of the servers and bartenders who strive to engage their guests in a conversation immediately upon meeting them. Not only do they take the lunch order for the guest’s, they welcome them and engage them in a conversation because they recognize and respect the fact that visitors are the reason we all get to live in this beautiful place. It is servers and bartenders like these that make Beaver Run and Breckenridge proud to say that our Service is top notch. Thank you Coppertop Bar and Management for creating a welcoming environment that visitors and locals want to visit. You truly are a customer service destination in Breckenridge. Congratulations Copper Top!

Jeanna Fickenscher- Breckenridge Grand Vacations- Service Standard #5
Dear Jeanna’s Boss I need you to know what an amazing employee and more importantly, kind and thoughtful person you have in Jeanna Fickenscher. My son was recently diagnosed with a serious illness and I had to unexpectantly fly from Cleveland to Breckenridge at a minute’s notice with a one way ticket. I luckily came into contact with Jeanna. I became interested looking at a timeshare not knowing how often I would be coming out to Breck and also my son who lives in Breck could benefit from some of the Peak 7 owner amenities. Jeanna was one of the kindest individuals I have ever encountered. From being so helpful on the phone, her compassion and understanding was just so refreshing for me as I was dealing with a very difficult situation and I was extremely stressed. She arranged for me to stay at the Breck Inn and tour Peak 8. Upon entering the room there was a lovely note from Jeanna letting me know that she was sending good thoughts and hoped for good news for my soon. She had a lovely food basket delivered with a very nice bottle of wine. It just made me cry, literally, that she took the time to hand write that note, have the basket and wine there upon my arrival. I was exhausted and it just made my day. You have a winner in her! I talked to her the next day and thanked her and she was just as wonderful. I ended up (which I really can’t affordJ) buying an off season every other year week on peak 7 due to her kindness. I only wish I could have thanked her personally!!!! A very, very grateful owner am I.

Mallory Elliott – Clint’s Bakery & Coffee House - Service Standard #1

Kevin Richey – City Market- Service Standard #1
The deli was packed and Kevin was the only one working at the time. He was very friendly, patient, and inviting. He continued to smile and help customers even as his line grew and his co-workers left him to go on break. When this nomination was discussed, several members of the GSI Committee confirmed the level of service Kevin “consistently” provides to deli customers.

Grace Goodreau – Traverse Restaurant & Bar - Service Standard # 2 (Three Nominations!)
She also receives rave reviews from our guests and here are 3 of those that have been posted on Tripadvisor: “Nice dinner after a long day!” Reviewed 1 week ago via mobile : After a longer than planned drive, we decided to fine at the Lodge restaurant. Beer and wine selection was good. Salads were very good. The bison burger and bison short rib sandwich were very nice. Burger was cooked exactly as my wife ordered. Our server, Grace, was very friendly and appropriately attentive. Great way to end the day!

Sam Sooter – Summit Express- Service Standard #2
Last Friday my mother flew in to visit from Michigan.

Sara Cox – The Crown - Service Standard # 5
While waiting for the STX presentation on the Blue River Plaza, my husband went into The Crown to order a sandwich, then said he would return to pick it up, because he didn't want to miss the show. Once the sandwich was ready, Sara Cox made the effort to come out on the plaza and find us to deliver it, so my husband wouldn't have to miss a minute of the show!
