The first weekend in December begins Breckenridge's annual transformation into a sparkling holiday scene. Participate in the Race of the Santas, where hundreds of jolly look-alikes race down Main Street to benefit Breckenridge's Boy Scout Troop 187 and continue the festivities with the Lighting of Breckenridge, where Santa greets the holiday congregation from his horse-drawn carriage.

To continue the festivities, bring your pet to lead Santa down Main Street on his journey to the Blue River Plaza, where he will greet holiday revelers for the Lighting of Breckenridge. Watch as Santa flips his magical switch to light up the town for the season. Then visit with Santa himself in the Barney Ford House Museum to make sure you're still on the Nice List.

And don't forget to stop by the Handmade Holiday Market in the Breckenridge Arts District. This is BreckCreate's winter open house where guests can stroll through the Arts District campus to meet local artisans, tour studios, and create one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted holiday gifts.

Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 - Race of the Santas & The Lighting of Breckenridge

Join us as hundreds of holiday enthusiasts of all ages, dressed in festive costumes, race down historic Main Street, Breckenridge. We encourage those who can withstand the thin mountain air to start at the front of the pack, as the top finishers will be awarded Ullr helmets and prize packages. Not a runner? Walk, jog or skip through the 6-block course. Children dressed in holiday costumes are welcome to join their parents in the Santa Race. So come out and show your support, all proceeds benefit the Breckenridge Boy Scout Troop 187.
Following the annual Race of the Santas, gather with locals and visitors alike and join us as Santa flips his switch to light up Breckenridge for the holiday season! Sing along to your favorite holiday tunes with carolers, bring your pooch to join Santa's procession down Main Street, and get ready for the holiday season.

Holiday Dog Parade Information

Are you interested in participating in the Parade? If so, here’s some helpful information so you and your pup can be part of the fun:

December 2nd, 2017

3:15 p.m. — 4:00 p.m. – Gather in Main Street Station with the dogs before the Bernese Mountain Dog Parade. There will be light refreshments, free Santa dog costumes for people who would like to join in the parade (because even the X-Large is way too small to fit a Berner) and lots of fun photo opportunities!

4:00 p.m. — 4:25 p.m. – The Holday Dog Parade will march down Main Street from Main St. Station to the Blue River Plaza. Anyone is welcome to join with their pet, as long as all dogs are in the holiday spirit and friendly with others. No Scrooges, please.

4:30 p.m.  Everyone from the parade will gather near the bottom of Washington Avenue in a special sectioned-off area to watch the Race of the Santas come down Main Street and gather together in the center of the fun. Many people will surely want to take pictures with the dogs (and you too!) so everyone is welcome to stay until the lighting of the town tree at 5:15 p.m.
