  Breckenridge “officially” transforms into a wintry holiday scene during the Lighting of Breckenridge on Dec. 4, 2010. A holiday window-decorating contest culminates Nov. 27; the Victorian Holiday Celebration continues throughout the entire month of December with activities that range from markets and family-friendly celebrations to freestyle competitions on the mountain and a film festival that showcases top athletes.

 

 

The Lighting of Breckenridge, December 4, 2010

The Lighting of Breckenridge kicks off the season when Santa meets holiday revelers in a horse-drawn carriage. Sip steaming cocoa, snack on cookies and join carolers in song for a procession along Main Street. Vibrant ornaments and twinkling lights come alive with the lighting of the plaza and town tree.

12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Ornament painting at Ready, Paint, Fire located at 323 North Main Street. Guest will be able to paint a ceramic ornament and receive the finish product the next day. There will be a cost of $5 per ornament and a discounted studio fee. Holiday story telling will also take place during the day.

4:30 p.m. - FREE Cocoa, cookies and caroling at Subway, 305 N Main Street.

5:00 p.m. - Santa arrives in front of Subway (via horse-drawn carriage) to lead a procession to the Blue River Plaza (South Main and Washington) for the lighting of the Town Tree and the plaza. All are welcome to join the procession.

5:15 p.m. - Tree lighting in the Blue River Plaza. The procession will end in the Blue River Plaza to enjoy the Victorian Holiday Market.

5:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m. - Visits with Santa at Breckenridge Welcome Center, located right next to the Blue River Plaza. Let the little ones share their Christmas wishes with Santa and take a photo too.

Victorian Holiday Market, December 4-5 and 11-12:

The Victorian Holiday Market is two weekends of a German-style holiday market mean families have plenty of opportunities to find that perfect gift. Think roasted chestnuts, hot spiced cider, mulled wine, visits with Santa and unique shopping along Breckenridge’s Main Street.

11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. - Enjoy the holiday spirit while sipping on warm Gluhwein (warm, spiced wine), Hot Chocolate, Sweets, German holiday breads, and local entertainment.

4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. - on Saturday, December 11th, visit with Santa at Breckenridge Welcome Center, located right next to the Blue River Plaza. Let the little ones share their Christmas wishes with Santa and take a photo too.

The third annual Breckenridge Snowflake Challenge, December 5-11:

revisits the town’s snow sculpting roots. This grassroots event is open to anyone who wants to try their hands sculpting snow and awards a total of $3,250 in prize money. Sculptures will be on display along Main Street through the holidays.

Summit Action Sports Film Festival, December 8-11:

Get ramped up for the Dew Tour with the Summit Action Sports Film Festival The event will showcase talented filmmakers from around the globe as well as top athletes, live music, industry Q&As with both athletes and filmmakers, photography exhibits, local activities and a wide variety of screenings.

Rob Schneider, December 10:

Rob Schneider of Saturday Night Live fame (and movies including Deuce Bigelow, Male Gigolo and Hot Chicks) hits the Riverwalk Center for an evening of gut-busting comedy in Breckenridge.

Dew Tour,December 16-19:

The third annual Winter Dew Tour puts pro snowsports athletes on display with televised halfpipe and slopestyle competitions. Expect town concerts and plenty of nightlife. Prequalified athletes include Breckenridge Team members Steve Fisher, JJ Thomas, Bobby Brown, Colby West and more.

Victorian Holiday Market Free Entertainment and Main Street Caroling Schedule

Saturday, December 4th: Jingle Singers will stroll down Main Street between the hours of 3 – 6 pm bring holiday music to all.

Sunday, December 5th - Jingle Singers will stroll down Main Street between the hours of 3-6 pm bring holiday music to all.

Saturday, December 11th - Mountain Majesty Chorus will stroll down Main Street between the hours of 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Sunday, December 12th - Breckenridge & Upper Blue Elementary will be gathering around 1pm to perform Christmas Carols around the town tree. They will then be breaking off in groups to carol down Main Street.

Sunday, December 12th - Mountain Majesty Chorus will stroll down Main Street between the hours of 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 18th - Summit Choral Society will stroll down Main Street between the hours of 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

December 3rd – December 30th: - Backstage Theater presents, Tuna Christmas - It's Christmas in the third smallest town in Texas, and times are tough. Bertha Bumiller's drunken husband hasn't come home, her kids are messes, and the "Christmas Phantom" is out to sabotage the town's annual yard display contest. This hilarious sequel to "Greater Tuna" presents two performers portraying twenty-odd hysterical characters in a show guaranteed to put a jingle in your sleigh! December 3rd – December 26th: - Holiday Museum Tour - The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance invites you to enjoy a free cup of hot coco and learn more about the story of Colorado’s Black Baron. Tours will be taking place at the Barney Ford House Museum; 111 E. Washington Ave. Friday - Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for the month of December. December 10th – December 12th: 3rd Annual Holiday Arts Market - Give the gift of original art this year and help to support local artists and the Town of Breckenridge Arts District, 30% of all purchases benefit future programming. December 11th: - Timberline Holiday Bizarre - Holiday Bizarre with many vendors including jewelry, clothing, crafts, food, bakes sale and homemade ornaments. Bring the kids for story telling. Event will be taking place in the Lincoln West Mall located on Main Street from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. All proceeds going to the Timberline Learning Center. December 31st: - Torch Light Parade - Breckenridge Ski Area comes alive with a torch light parade. The parade is a Breckenridge tradition. Skiers and boarders (ski are employees pitch in and volunteer) proceed from the top of Peak 9, down American, to The Village at Breckenridge, starting at 6 p.m. Best views: anywhere you can see Peak 9.

December 31st: - Yamn New Years Eve Concert - Yamn, formerly of Breckenridge is bringing their annual New Year's Eve show to the Riverwalk Center for an all ages show. Ring in the New Year in the heart of Breckenridge listening to great music- 3 sets of Yamn. December 31st: - New Years Eve Fireworks - Once again this year, New Year's Eve fireworks are being launched from a site between Peak 8 and 9. This provides a better view from Town of this beautiful fireworks display which uses the Ten Mile Range as a backdrop. And with clear skies, these fireworks can be seen from most locations in downtown Breckenridge at 9:00 p.m.
