What is this race?

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is a seven day professional cycling race attracting many of the top cyclists in the world, and is expected to be one of the largest spectator sporting events in the United States. Breckenridge is honored to be chosen as the Stage 5 Finish.

What is the schedule?

Race: - Teams depart Steamboat Springs at 11:15 a.m. and are slated to arrive in Breckenridge between 3:15 and 4:30 p.m.
Breckenridge activities:
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. - Family Fun Zone at Main Street Station with live music from Jammin Junior
11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - Lifestyle Expo in Wellington/Sawmill lots (north Main Street), includes entertainment and beer garden
11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. - Citizens Street Sprint Race (free) with onsite registration, near Finish Line (Wellington Street)
11:30 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. - Ripstoke Bicycle Stunt Shows on Main Street, near Blue River Plaza
12:00 – 4:00 p.m. - Watch Party benefit (fee) for Breckenridge Heritage Alliance on Barney Ford lawn; to purchase tickets go to www.breckheritage.com or call 970.453.9767
1:45 p.m. - A townie cruiser parade tops off the pre-race activities

When shall I arrive in Breckenridge?

The earlier the better! Be where you want to be BY 2PM. Parking will be extremely limited so arrive early to avoid road closures and spend time shopping, strolling, having a bite to eat, visiting the Expo and finding a great place to catch the action!

Where is the best place to see the race? and finish?

The race heads south on Highway 9 from Farmers Korner (Swan Mountain Road), veers right before the roundabout onto Park Avenue, follows Park around town before making an exciting left to head north on Main Street, and sprints through Main Street for a thrilling finish at Wellington.

Are dogs allowed?

NO, for the safety of our beloved four legged friends (and the racers!), this is a NO PET EVENT and they will not (leashed or unleashed) be allowed at the race finish or along the route.

What about drinking water?

Bring your reusable water bottles to fill up at the water filling stations.

Will there be recycling?

There will be Zero Waste tents throughout the event; be sure to look for these mighty ZZeerroo HHeerrooss to help you dispose of trash, recyclables and compostable items properly.

Is there a fee to view the race?

The race is FREE to watch in Breckenridge.

Is camping allowed along the race route in Breckenridge?

NO, camping is NOT permitted within town limits.

What teams/racers are expected?

Many of the top riders and teams from The Tour de France are coming to Breckenridge, including 2011 Tour de France Winner, Cadel Evans. There will be over 120 top riders from teams such as Team Radio Shack (USA), Columbia-HTC, Team Garmin-Cervelo (USA), Liquigas-Cannondale (Italy), Leopard Trek, United Health Care Pro Cycling, and Skil-Shimano.

KEY POINTS: Be where you want to be by 2:00 p.m. and don’t plan to drive until after 4:00 p.m.

  • Main St. - Watson to Park Ave.: Closed 5:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Main St. - French St. to Watson Ave.: Closed 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Ski Hill Road/Lincoln Ave. remains open across Main St. most of the day with a closure from 2:30 p.m. – Race Finish
  • Park Ave.: Closed 2:30 p.m. – Race Finish
  • HWY 9: Farmers Korner – Breckenridge: Closed 2:30 p.m – Race Finish
  • HWY 9: Breckenridge – Farmers Korner: Closed at 2:00 p.m. – Race Finish
  • Swan Mountain Road: Closed 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • HWY 6: approx. 30 minute closures between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m.
  • Dam Road: Open All Day

Where can we park during the race?

The primary parking will be north of town in the Satellite lot on Airport Road (exit Highway 9 at Coyne Valley Road) with a FREE shuttle into town running from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Other transportation ideas?

Ride your bike (bring a lock), walk or ride a shuttle bus. Free Ride Yellow Route will run up to 1:15 p.m. (departing Breck Station); Purple Route will run up to 1:45 p.m. (departing Breck Station); routes are expected to resume to full service at 5:45 p.m. The last Summit Stage bus from Frisco to Breckenridge will depart (Frisco Station) 1:30 p.m. and resume at 5:30 p.m.; the last bus from Breckenridge to Frisco will depart (Breck Station) at 1:45 p.m. and resume at 5:45 p.m.

Which roads will be closed during the race?

Colorado State Patrol will implement a rolling closure of Highway 9 from Steamboat Springs to Breckenridge as the cyclists progress, including Highway 9 in Silverthorne and Highway 6 in Dillon. The Dam Road WILL be open. Swan Mountain Road will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Highway 9 between Farmers Korner and Breckenridge is slated for closure from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. In Breckenridge, Main Street will be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Ski Hill Road remains open across Main most of the day with a closure from 2:30 p.m. to Race Finish.

Due to the nature of the sporting event, the road closures are highly variable and up to date information can be found at www.cotrip.org.

Is there a place for my bike?

Bike parking (bring your own locks) will be available at two locations - to the south of the Expo (parking lot of Summit Housing Authority) and in the Courthouse Lot (east of Towne Square Mall; at your own risk.
